watch-os2-story AppleWatchOS 2 is out, which is the biggest thing to happen to the Apple Watch since it was released just a few months ago. The watchOS 2 Beta has been out for Apple developers since June, and that beta period has given developers plenty of time to work on their apps, and it’s given Apple time to hype up the general release of the new OS.What’s NewIf you’ve been following the OS release, you may have heard about the new features such as Nightstand mode, Time Travel, and the new watch faces. All these new tricks may prove helpful to some users, but for the biggest potential changes in utility, look to the arrival of new native apps. Yes, in watchOS 2, Apple now allows app developers to incorporate such Watch hardware features as the Digital Crown and the Taptic engine into their apps. This opens a lot of doors for what Watch apps can now do. The Apple Watch will be able to run more apps on its own, and it will feel less like just an additional screen for your iPhone and more like the mobile computer it’s meant to be. Hopefully, we will now see a lot more developers creating apps built specifically for the wrist. How to Get ItYou can update your own wearable to watchOS 2 once your iPhone is running iOS 9. Just make sure your Watch is plugged into a power source, and your iPhone is connected to both Wi-Fi and your Watch (via Bluetooth). Then open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to My Watch > General > Software Update. Enter your passcode and you should see a progress bar. Let the update load and install, and when you are finished, your Apple Watch will restart on its own.Go Back to Top. Skip To: Start of Article.
