HBO just unveiled the first trailer for Westworld, a new series coming next year. Starring Anthony Hopkins, much of it looks like it could be a conventional western, but the teaser trailer has enough futuristic flashes in it to show that something else is going on — especially if you've seen the source material, Michael Crichton's 1973 movie of the same title.

HBO itself describes Westworld as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin." The series also features Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr., Simon Quarterman, and Angela Sarafyan, and will air in 2016.
