Organisers of a convention for the computer game Minecraft said they are "truly genuinely sorry" after angry parents criticised it on social media.

About 4,100 people attended MineVention at the Peterborough Arena on Saturday to meet star players and play games.

But dozens of people said they spent hours queuing to meet famous players and have demanded refunds.

O'Brien Event Management said a new system to reduce queues would be implemented in future.

The unofficial convention, not endorsed by Minecraft-developer Mojang, gave fans the chance to meet famous "Youtubers", take photographs and play games.

But afterwards it came under fire on social media with people complaining about long queues, a lack of food and merchandise stalls and activities for fans.

Lisa O'Brien, at O'Brien Event Management, previously told the BBC the queues were 45 minutes too long due to a large amount of people who turned up on the day rather than buying tickets in advance.

A further statement released on the company's website said: "We are truly genuinely sorry to hear our event did not meet a few people's expectations.

"MineVention is primarily a 'meet and greet' event and so this does mean queuing, but on the plus side it does give the kids the special chance to meet their heroes.

"We have taken all your comments regarding the event on board and, going forward, we will be putting in a new queuing system and much more content."

The company also issued a statement from Peterborough Arena, which was responsible for catering, that again blamed the "sheer volume" of people who came through the door on the day for the long queues.

Both parties said they would respond to all disgruntled parents that had contacted them in due course.

No comment has been made regarding refunds, but some parents told the BBC they received them on the day after complaining to staff.

Online ticketing firm YPlan said it was "actively seeking information from the event partner to understand their stance on refunds and will seek to compensate all our customers who were dissatisfied with this event".
