Updated at 9:17 a.m.

Good morning on this somber Friday.

Today is the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Events are scheduled throughout the day and across the city to pay tribute to those who died and honor the emergency workers.

At the National September 11 Memorial & Museum downtown, a moment of silence began the ceremonies at 8:46 a.m., the minute the first plane hit the towers.

Families of victims then began reading the names of those who were killed.

Others clutched framed photographs close to their chest or had the face of a loved one printed on their T-shirt.

Above the crowds of hundreds that gathered, posters bobbed. Some were designed with images of the towers and the American flag along with a photo of their relative, and others looked more homemade, like the one declaring in glittery block letters, “We love you! We miss you!”

In Queens, Tony Avella, a state senator from Bayside, will host a memorial service at 10 a.m. in 9/11 Memorial Park in Flushing, followed by a motorcade and procession through the borough.

The New York City Fire Museum has its annual remembrance ceremony at 1 p.m.

At 3 p.m., the 9/11 Memorial will be open to the public for a viewing of “Tribute in Light,” two beams of light representing the towers, beginning at dusk. The plaza is open until midnight.

At 6:30 p.m., the annual memorial ceremony at the Postcards memorial on Staten Island takes place with James Oddo, the borough president.

And finally, Bargemusic hosts a free memorial concert in Brooklyn Bridge Park at 8 p.m.

Here’s what else is happening:

Over the weekend, the rain will most likely return in bouts, with more cloudiness and highs in the mid- to high 70s.

Next week, though, the sunny skies will return. At least we hope.

AND FINALLY …

This Saturday, The Times invites you to get Insta-involved.

Our social media staff has organized a photo scavenger hunt in Brooklyn Bridge Park, as part of Photoville NYC, a series of photography events and exhibits.

Instagrammers can follow a series of clues that will lead participants around the park.

The task, if you choose to accept it, is simple: Solve the clues, photograph the answers and post them on Instagram with the hashtag #NYTPhotoHunt.

Meet at the beer garden at Photoville at Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park just before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, and head for the red balloon.

After your quest is complete, meet back in the beer garden for a projection of some photographs from our Lens blog, with images from photographers around the world.

The event is free, and you don’t even need to R.S.V.P.
