The town of Warren, Michigan, is debating a law to ban flamethrowers after its mayor called them "weapons of mass destruction".
A firm in the area is marketing a flamethrower that can spew burning fuel 25 feet (7.6m) as "cool" and "fun".
It says there is no need to stop people using a "novelty tool".
