One Marine has died and several others were injured in a helicopter crash at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, the Marines said.
A CH-53E helicopter belonging experienced a hard landing at the base late Wednesday, Capt. Ryan Elizabeth Alvis said in a statement Thursday.
Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune said one Marine was flown there from the crash site and pronounced dead. Six Marines were scheduled for release Thursday and one was hospitalized in stable condition.Three other service members were transferred to Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, N.C., and were listed in stable condition.
The identity of the Marine who died will be withheld until 24 hours after family is notified, Alvis said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time," the statement said.
The incident was under investigation and no additional details were being released early Thursday, Alvis said.
