The national weather forecast for Wednesday, September 2. Summer persists in meteorological fall with high temperatures and showers. VPC

The calendar may say September but the weather will be like July for much of the country on Wednesday.

East: Other than along the Gulf Coast and in Florida, where scattered showers and storms are forecast, most of the eastern third of the country will be hot, sunny and dry on Wednesday. High temperatures will skyrocket into the upper 80s and 90s.

Central U.S.: Blazing sunshine and high temperatures in the 90s will be common from the Dakotas to Texas. Some light showers will bring some minor heat relief around the Great Lakes.

West: The one cool spot Wednesday will be the Pacific Northwest, where showers and storms will keep things cool. Highs will only be in the 60s and 70s in much of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. The Southwest will be hot, though some afternoon thunderstorms are possible in the central and southern Rockies.
