MELBOURNE, Fla. — The planned Monday launch of an Atlas V rocket carrying a military communications satellite from Cape Canaveral has been postponed because of uncertainty about the approach of Tropical Storm Erika.

United Launch Alliance had hoped to roll the 206-foot rocket carrying the Navy’s fourth Mobile User Objective System satellite to their Launch Complex 41 pad Saturday morning.

As of Friday afternoon, after two launch readiness reviews, the rollout was on track to proceed despite a forecast predicting only a 30% chance of favorable launch weather on Monday, and worse conditions Tuesday.

But by Friday evening, the outlook had changed.

“Darn Erika,” ULA CEO Tory Bruno said on Twitter. “Starting to look a little iffy for the roll out to the pad.”

"Iffy" soon turned into “no-go.”

A launch on Wednesday would be targeted for 5:59 a.m. ET, the opening of a 44-minute launch window.
