Savannah State University in Georgia was placed on lockdown late Thursday after a shooting near the university's student union.
University spokeswoman Loretta Heyward told WTOC-TV that one man was taken to a local hospital. She did not specify what injuries the man had suffered.
Students have been told to stay in place and cooperate with officers and other personal. Campus police were investigating the shooting.
Established in 1890, Savannah State is a historically black university with a total enrollment of approximately 5,000 students.
