A Melbourne, Fla., mother and child were in good condition after narrowly escaping a sinking car that plowed into a small lake earlier Wednesday.
The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. today on Apollo Boulevard.
"There was a child in the car, about 5 or 6 years-old," said Cmdr. Dan Lynch of the Melbourne Police Department.
Police said the woman was traveling in a black car along Apollo – which is under construction – when the vehicle somehow veered off the roadway and rolled into the nearby lake.
Melbourne police arrived quickly and found the car mostly submerged with only the trunk portion showing above the water.
A dive team was called out to help secure the car so it could be pulled out of the murky water.
An investigation is ongoing.
