You could already watch movies on the Gear VR via the VR Cinema app, but things are about to get a whole lot bigger. Oculus vice president of mobile Max Cohen announced at the company’s Connect summit this morning that Gear VR would not only give users access to a spate of retro games via Oculus Arcade, but that Oculus Mobile would be rolling out a greatly expanded set of offerings. And it starts with movies: Partnerships with Lionsgate, 20th Century Fox, and others will make the Alien films, Pulp Fiction, and the Hunger Games series available in VR.
However, Cohen went on to detail a number of other services that have signed on to be availble in Gear VR and the forthcoming Oculus Rift. Twitch. Vimeo. Facebook’s newly announced 360-degree videos. Tivo. And yes, even the grandaddy of them all, Netflix. Which means that before too long, “Netflix and chill” will be two people on the couch wearing separate headsets. YOU’RE WELCOME, SOCIETY.
