A Bronx man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with killing a borough taxi driver during a dispute over the fare, the police said.

The driver, Mamadou Barry, 39, an immigrant from Guinea who lived in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx, was found in his green Lincoln Town Car around 1:30 a.m. on Monday a few miles from his home. The police said he had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nicholas Sanchez, 24, also of the Bronx, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of murder, aggravated manslaughter, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. He was taken to Bronx Criminal Court for booking late Wednesday night, the police said.

The police said Mr. Barry picked up Mr. Sanchez near the intersection of East 138th Street and Cypress Avenue in Mott Haven and drove him to East 189th Street and Beaumont Avenue in the Belmont section. At some point, the police said, Mr. Sanchez pulled out a handgun and shot Mr. Barry in the head before fleeing on foot.

Robert K. Boyce, the New York Police Department’s chief of detectives, said the shooting occurred during an argument over the fare.

Witnesses who knew Mr. Sanchez led detectives to him, the police said. Officials did not say where he was arrested or if a gun was recovered.

Mr. Barry had three sons and was expecting a fourth child with his wife.

Mr. Barry’s death was the latest in a string of shootings in recent days across the city.
