Thanks to Pope Francis' US tour, UPS had already warned that packages won't be delivered on time to certain ZIP codes, endangering this Friday's iPhone 6S launch — and now, Apple is acknowledging that the worst-case scenario may end up coming true.

Here's the email Apple is sending out to some New York residents who ordered their phones through the online Apple Store:

Dear XXXX,

Thank you for your recent Apple Store purchase.

Your iPhone 6s 64GB Rose Gold is scheduled for delivery on Friday, September 25th. However, due to traffic restrictions expected for that day in New York City, your delivery may be delayed.

If we're unable to complete the delivery on Friday, we'll also be making Saturday deliveries at most locations.

To track your package, please visit UPS with your tracking number: XXXX.

We know you're looking forward to receiving your new iPhone, and we apologize if your order is affected.

It's unclear what the point is of even offering to deliver the phone on Saturday — that's a full calendar day after the phone is on the market, at which point it'll be old news. The world will have moved onto iPhone 7 rumors by then. (The silver lining, though, is that you'll be able to kill that time reading two Verge reviews to get ready for the Pope-delayed package: one from Walt Mossberg, and one from Nilay Patel.)
