A police officer was shot Friday at a gas station in Tucker, Ga., in suburban Atlanta and was in critical condition at a local hospital, WXIA and other news organizations are reporting.
The police officer was shot in the upper left shoulder and was expecting to survive, Cedric Alexander, director of public safety for DeKalb County, Ga., said Friday.
Two suspects were in custody, Alexander said.
Police were following the suspected gun runners when the suspects crashed into the gas station, Bruner tweeted.
The officer was alert and conscious, reporter Portia Bruner of Fox 5 in Atlanta tweeted that police told her.
DeKalb County police did not respond to a message left with a request for information and a representative at Grady Memorial Hospital said the facility's policy was to avoid giving out information on patients. She also said she could not confirm the officer had been brought there.
The incident took place at a RaceTrac gas station. No one answered the phone at the station late Friday afternoon.
