Samantha Bee’s new show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee doesn’t debut on TBS until January. But that doesn’t mean she should be left out of a survey of the current late-night landscape. Vanity Fair’s October feature on the state of late-night TV included all of the current hosts—Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien, Seth Meyers, James Corden, Bill Maher, John Oliver, Larry Wilmore, and even the yet-to-debut-on-The Daily Show Trevor Noah—but somehow didn’t include “female as fuck” Bee. Rightfully perturbed that she’s got a show and was literally not invited to the boys’ club photoshoot, Bee didn’t waste time with a rant, she just ethered the magazine with one tweet.

One of the major reasons “Why Late-Night Television Is Better Than Ever,” to borrow the feature’s headline, is because Bee is getting her own show and breaking up the sausage fest, so her absence from the Vanity Fair photo is a pretty glaring omission. (Vanity Fair and WIRED are both owned by Condé Nast.) The image also speaks to the dearth of women in late-night that Bee is trying to address/combat. The former Daily Show correspondent is not just producing her own show to fit into the current late-night lineup; she’s pointing out the gender disparity at every turn, making incisive jokes about it, and building her standalone reputation. Here’s hoping bits like this one below hit hard and often when Full Frontal debuts next year—and garner Bee a magazine feature all her own.
