Why Danny Boyle Filmed Steve Jobs in Three Different Formats

Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin wrote his Steve Jobs movie to take place during three distinct events in the tech pioneer’s life: the launch of the Apple Macintosh in 1984, the launch of the NeXTcube in 1988, and the launch of the Apple iMac in 1998. To keep with the mood and feel of each of those times, director Danny Boyle filmed Steve Jobs in three different formats: 16mm, 35mm, and digital. That evolution of formats, Boyle says, is meant to show Jobs’ transformation from young computer rebel to the man behind the sleek and sexy Apple machines we know today. Find out more about the director’s technique in the video above.
