The auto industry is worried about Millennials. Study after study, survey after survey has shown that the 18-to-35 demographic doesn't care as much about cars as their parents and grandparents did.

But that doesn't mean that Millennials aren't buying vehicles at all. Many are, and they're happy to share snaps of their rides on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and, of course, Instagram.

Recently, AutoNation scanned Instagram to see what kind of vehicles the app's users were posting about. Although AutoNation didn't try to guess user's ages, the fact that those folks were using an app that skews fairly young and the fact that they were posting about their first car suggests that they had a long way to go before getting their AARP cards.

Here are a few of the survey's findings:

In terms of brands, Honda was the most-frequently mentioned first car on Instagram. Ford took second place, followed by Chevrolet, Volkswagen, and Nissan.
When it came to makes and models, though, the Ford Mustang nabbed top honors. The Honda Civic was the second most-popular first car, followed by the Honda Accord, Volkswagen Beetle, and Volkswagen Jetta. (We'll be curious to see if #4 and #5 are the same post-Dieselgate.)
The rest of the top 20 most-posted models included vehicles from Chevrolet, Nissan, Toyota, Jeep, MINI, Kia, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai.
Among the top 20 mass-market car makes and models, there was no mention of Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Subaru. That doesn't mean that Instagram users didn't buy or receive those cars, only that they didn't post about them. (Which could be a bad sign for the companies that make them.)
Red was the most popular first-car color, accounting for 18.53 percent of paint jobs. Coming in a close second was black, at 18.5 percent. Least popular? Purple.
Although Fords and Hondas were common on Instagram, they weren't the most-liked models. First-car pics with the most likes tended to be BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, or Jeeps. (The least liked was Pontiac.)
The full AutoNation infographic is too large to post, but you can download a copy of your own here.
