(NEWSER) – Kind gestures by strangers highlight some of the week's good-news stories:

  • Photo of McDonald's Worker Will Make Your Day: An older man in a wheelchair went to McDonald's and approached the registers asking for help eating. Much to a bystander's surprise, one cashier immediately closed his register and went to the man's table to lend a hand. It was "the kindest and most humble thing I had ever seen," says the woman who witnessed the act, and whose resulting photo went viral.
  • Homeless Family Finds Guardian Angel in Deputy: An Ohio woman and her young sons ended up sleeping for a night at the Butler County Sheriff's Office after being evicted and having no place to go. That's when a deputy stepped up with an incredibly generous move that resulted in food, clothing, and shelter—and help finding a permanent home.
  • Indiana Driver's Traffic Stop Selfie Resonates: When a black driver in Indiana was pulled over speeding by a white police officer, the story line didn't follow those of other high-profile stops in the news of late. In fact, the driver's selfie with the officer and his Facebook post about the "mutual display of respect" quickly went viral.
  • Tiny Baby Born at Sea Defies the Odds: Haiden Morgan came into this world way too early (by about four months), way too small (under 2 pounds), and in the wrong place (at sea on a cruise ship). He made it though, thanks to improvised medical care and a captain who raced toward the nearest port.
  • Postal Worker Saves UPS Guy From Dog Attack: The US Postal Service-UPS rivalry vanished in the face of a common enemy: an attacking and possibly rabid pit bull. Officials say that when a UPS driver in Chicago was attacked by the dog, a passing postal worker jumped in—and likely saved his life.
