Alex Davies/WIREDPorsche may be making most of its sales on passenger-friendly SUVs like the Macan and Cayenne these days, but there’s no denying it’s got serious racing cred. Since 2001, it’s been celebrating that heritage every few years with a Rennsport reunion. For Rennsport V, more than 300 race cars and some 2,000 other Porsches have taken over the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California for an amazing weekend of classic car ogling and racing. One of the more impressive cars on display is this “viper green” 1972 Kremer Porsche ST, which won five of nine races in the inaugural, 1972 European Grand Touring Championship. Modified by Erwin Kremer with wider rims, roll bars, a 2.5-liter engine, and flared fenders, the four-wheel drive car took first at Hockenheim, Germany and Estoril, Portugal, as well as at the Nurburgring, the world’s longest racetrack, and one of the toughest.
