SUPER IDEA: One Flash of Light, Yeah

Wondering what to expect from Marvel’s second-newest superhero in Captain America: Civil War next year? Paul Bettany spilled some beans about the future of the Vision during a recent appearance at AsiaPopComic-Con recently. The Vision, he explained, “must be both omnipotent and yet totally naive at the same time. And experiencing the world in real time and his place in it. Is he going to be a force of good or a force of evil? It was really interesting, fun to play with, because he is dangerous, you do not know if he’s going to go one way or another. And I’m continuing that theme in Captain America 3.” So … a naive, omnipotent being? Doesn’t that make the outcome of Civil War somewhat of a gimme?
Why this is super: Presumably, the thing stopping the Vision from just ending Civil War in the blink of an eye will be his naivety, but shouldn’t everyone be a little scared of having quite so powerful a super dude on their team?

SUPER IDEA: No, Really: There Will Be a Sequel to Man of Steel (Kind Of)

After all the rumors about whether or not Warner Bros. plans to make a Man of Steel 2 to accompany the solo Batman movies reportedly spinning out of next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, director Zack Snyder has said that such a film will happen … and be released next March. “I think in a way Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2,” he said during a recent interview, before adding that it would be “interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.” He also said that BvS wasn’t a stealth Justice League movie, but that 2017’s Justice League “is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story.”
Why this is super: Given the trailers for BvS, it’s hardly surprising that it’s being viewed as the unofficial official follow-up to Man of Steel, even if that does mean that we’re unlikely to see a real standalone Superman movie anytime soon.

SUPER IDEA: Turns Out, Deadpool Is Worried About the Fantastic Four

If there’s anyone who knows how to deal with a superhero flop and move on, it’s former Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds. So everyone should hear the insights he gave during a recent interview in which he talked about Fantastic Four. Saying that Miles Teller’s career won’t suffer too badly for the failure of the movie, he went on, “I know it’s not easy for a black actor. It’s not easy for a female actor. It’s not easy for a lot of people that are… That entire cast is amazingly talented. And I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. I mean, I know what that feels like. It doesn’t feel good. And it also is difficult, because you don’t feel like you can control that outcome. You know, as much as you want to. You can’t really.” (For those who want to know about Deadpool, Reynolds’ upcoming superhero project, he did say that the movie had “an element of, like, watching a DVD commentary by someone who’s got some pop-culture savvy and is kind of funny and a little obnoxious and is saying the things that you maybe wouldn’t say. It’s fun.”)
Why this is super: All things considered, Reynolds was one of the few things not wrong with Green Lantern—and Michael B. Jordan and Kate Mara were two of the few things not wrong with Fantastic Four. Just as Reynolds has been granted a second life in the genre, it’d be great to see Jordan and Mara get a chance to start over, as well.

SUPER IDEA: This Is the End, My Beautiful Friend

Simon Kinberg, producer on the X-Men movies, has promised that next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse is going to be the big one. “It delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies,” he said while talking to Collider. “It feels like the culmination of the four main characters really—[James] McAvoy, [Michael] Fassbender, Nic Hoult, and Jen [Lawrence]. And it’s a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too because it is the culmination of this mini trilogy of stories.” Given that the timeline of the X-Men movies is up for grabs after last year’s Days of Future Past, what’s the bet that one of those characters will die to close off the arc? After all, while we’ve seen future Xavier again, the other three are still available to be offed.
Why this is super: Ever since X-Men: First Class stealth rebooted the franchise, the series has been gradually building in scope and intensity. If Apocalypse ends up living up to its title, we’re in. Who really expected the X-Men movies to become quite so exciting again?

SUPER IDEA: Well, Vampires Are Long-Lived…

More than a decade after he last played the role, Wesley Snipes has revealed that he’s ready to return to the fight as Blade, Marvel’s Vampire Hunter, now that Marvel Studios has regained rights to the character. “It’s in Marvel’s hands,” he told the Huffington Post. “They’re controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it.” He’s seemingly down for whatever Marvel has planned, saying that it’d be “interesting” if he ended up in the Avengers, but his main concern? Telling the world that he’s still got it. “I’m still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role,” said the 53-year-old actor.
Why this is super: For all the credit paid to Sony’s first Spider-Man and Fox’s first X-Men movies for jumpstarting Marvel’s cinematic fortunes, Blade actually came first in 1999; if Snipes and the character end up getting the recognition they deserve, that’d be a good thing. Even if it’s just seeing Blade make a cameo in Doctor Strange for a couple of seconds fighting some vampires.
