vizio m70-c3 review

Probably the only downside to owning this tv is the lack of 4k content and the fact that some 4k content may not look that great depending on the camera being used to capture the footage. In order to watch 4k Netflix content, you have to upgrade from a regular streaming plan ($8/month) to one that offers 4k content ($12 a month). The problem is, for older tv shows or movies, the 4k content is pretty fuzzy, similar to watching some older movies on blu ray, most likely because cameras back in the day weren't designed to capture footage in high resolutions like we have today.

The tv is thin, consumes around $30 a year in energy, built in 802.11 ac wifi (fast), and my PS4/Apple Tv fit nicely under the TV. Considering this TV is not much more than similar sized 1080p TVs, I would highly recommend spending a little extra for this tv so that your current lineup of 1080p movies/games will look better than they ever have, and once 4k content becomes available, you will be ready for it.

Since the movies and video games I own look better than ever on this TV, and 4k content certainly looks promising when done right, everything else is just icing on the cake. Once again, many thanks to Vizio for stepping up and giving me, the customer, something better when they could have just given up after TV # 3 and let me take it back to retailer. They stand behind their product and make things right if things aren't working out.

I was given a 50" Vizio M-Series 1080p TV (Model: M502I-B1) from another retailer that at first worked really well. Or I guess fortunately in my case, I went through three of the 1080p TVs until I asked Vizio of they could replace what seemed to be a defective model with something equivalent or better. Vizio ended up replacing the 1080p TV with the 50" Vizio 4K M50-C1 (kudos to them for stepping up and doing what they could to keep me as a customer) and I must say that I'm so very happy I stuck with Vizio because this 4k tv is far better than expected and I feel like I really came out ahead in the end.

As it is well known, right now there is not a lot of 4k content available. Considering I spend a lot of my time playing PS4, I was concerned that my games would not look good on a 4k TV and that they might also have framerate issues. Luckily, not only do my PS4 games not have any framerate issues (be sure to turn on game mode in the TV's settings and have the PS4 hooked into the 5th HDMI port), but the 1080p resolution of the games being upscaled to the 4k screen look amazing. My games actually look a lot better on this 4k tv than they did on the 1080p one, and they look better than they do on my Dad's 60" 1080p Samsung that cost almost twice what this Vizio TV currently costs, so suffice to say this was a huge relief and now PS4 gaming is starting to feel like it is truly "next gen" (thank you Batman: AK).

Perhaps just as important as my concern for how my video games would look, I was worried that my vast collection of blu ray movies would look like my previously vast collection of DVDs, pixelated and murky. Much like the video games, the upscaled 1080p from the bluray movies (which I play through my PS4) look better than ever, in many cases approaching movie theater quality. Similar to other reviews though, I would suggest turning off any "motion smoothing" options as they actually can cause the scenes to lag/studder or give off that "soap opera" effect where everything is too smooth (I keep it on game mode with the PS4 and the movies never have any issues, expect on some very slow panning scenes).
